Gravadora: Nuclear Blast
Years past their gold-selling peak, L.A.'s nü-metal industrialists support their ninth album with drums programmed somewhere between machine guns and radio teletype rigs, offering intermittent respite with horror-soundtrack orchestrations. "Soul Hacker" gets glam-shouty like Marilyn Manson; "Regenerate" opens crossing Rush with Star Wars; "Expiration Date" floats across Radiohead-ballad oceans for nearly nine minutes, drifting into negative space at the end. Angry staccato slogans are exchanged throughout, and the title track is hitched to a spoken sample that sounds a lot like Ronald Reagan.
