Gravadora: Decca Crossover
The decline of smooth jazz radio may have dozens of instrumental stars scrabbling, but it has served David Sanborn well, allowing him to return to his salty soul-jazz roots. This time out, Sanborn teams up with Hammond B-3 master Joey DeFrancesco and drummer Steve Gadd for a tough, tart tip of the hat to the era of Ray Charles, Jimmy Smith and the two saxophonists who most inspired him -- Hank Crawford and "Fathead" Newman. Joss Stone and James Taylor offer guest vocals, but the emphasis here is on the roadhouse music.
